Private label – what is it, and why is it worth it?

Private labelling refers to the situation in which a company bring to the market products under their own brand, which have been produced by another third party – for example, a Chinese factory.

There are a number of advantages of creating and selling private label products. First of all, creating your own products allows you to build recognition for your company and product range, attract new customers and gain a competitive advantage. A good brand differentiates a product from others, can signify prestige and can even symbolize certain life values. Even if many products are very similar, the brand differentiates them in the eyes of the customer. Private label products give also the opportunity to develop e-commerce sales – private label goods can be offered not only in one’s own shop, but also in various marketplaces, shops of other retailers or in social media.
